Hi I am Arun. I am first year PhD student in Intelligent Systems Program. Before this, I was a Masters’ student in Computer Science at University of Pittsburgh. I completed my Masters Thesis in Database Systems, under the supervision of Professor Panos K. Chrysanthis and Dr. Konstatinos Kosta. I worked on improving file reading times in Parquet files using a library Apache Arrow and built a system exclusively for Pitt CS department called the PittCS Arrow. You can read more about it in my thesis at http://d-scholarship.pitt.edu/39587/. I am now working on my research in developing an ITS system in EMBRACE, using Applied NLP/AI in the domain of Human Computer Interaction with my academic advisor, Prof. Erin Walker. I started working on this idea as a part-time programmer under her supervision, which I am extending as a part of my PhD.Outside of work I like to go long walks and bike trails. I really love coffee because it enables me to work better. I consider myself as a machine that converts coffee to code. I want to be better researcher and I strive to acquire the skills to become a good researcher, every day!
